Safe-Use Guidelines

  • Follow all installation and set-up instructions carefully.
  • Do not use the mount as a handle for lifting your watercraft.
  • Understand and follow your local boating laws and regulations.
  • Understand the effects of added weight to the buoyancy of your watercraft.
  • The actuators and control panel are water-resistant; submersion in water should be avoided.
  • The control stand for the XP model is designed to provide improved access to the controls for the operator, while seated or standing.  While it provides assistance with standing, it is not designed to support the weight of the operator.
  • Understand the risks for capsizing your watercraft…and plan your recovery.
  • If you have a high risk of capsizing, the use of outriggers is recommended.
  • Use scupper plugs, particularly in the forward and aft holes.
  • Understand the hazards of electricity around water.
  • Never use the system without first installing the 60 AMP terminal fuse on the positive terminal of your battery.
  • Never launch without a battery that is 100% charged.
  • Keep your master power switch in the “OFF” position when not in use.
  • Attach the safety lanyard to yourself in a way that will withstand the tear-away force needed to kill the power (approximately 20 pounds).
  • Never leave the shore without a paddle on-board.
  • Monitor your battery capacity regularly.
  • Consider adding a back-up battery to your stowed gear.
  • Carry extra fuses with you on the kayak.
  • It’s recommended to remove your propeller from the motor after each use.
  • Secure the control stand with the seat strap, in its lowest position, braced against the deck, for transport.
  • Remove the entire system from the watercraft after each use.
